The HBS Dorm Energy Competition and SFP/OWA Energy Challenge have been underway for three weeks now with residents making small changes in their behavior to decrease electricity consumption by 10% over the four week period.

Residents have also been asked to sign the Harvard Sustainability Pledge at http://www.greencampus.harvard.edu/pledge. For every pledge signed Harvard University will put $1.50 towards a green energy project across its campus. The winning dorm will receive a cash prize to be spent on a dorm party while SFP/OWA residents will win an ice cream party if they reach the 10% reduction target.

Results of the HBS Dorm Energy Competition:
After three weeks, McCulloch (96%) leads Chase (78%) in the overall competition standings. However the competition is still anyone's game as McCulloch and Hamilton actually increased their electricity usage over the Thanksgiving break while Chase and Morris showed consistency by maintaining their savings from the previous week. Chase residents lead on the Sustainability Pledge signature front with 47% of residents signing the pledge so far, although McCulloch is close behind with 43% of residents signing on.

Results of the SFP/OWA Energy Challenge:
Meanwhile the residents of SFP/OWA have exceeded their week three target by ~10,000 - 20,000 kilowatt hours of electricity so will need to focus on saving electricity this week if they are to meet the 10% saving overall.

Stay tuned for the announcement of the winner of the Dorm Energy Competition and the results of the SFP/OWA Energy Challenge next week. Will it be McCulloch for the second year in a row? Or will Chase steal the trophy? And will the apartments be able to reduce their consumption sufficiently to reach the 10% reduction target?
