On Wednesday, January 17, the African-American Student Union (AASU) sent a team of 18 volunteers to the Greater Boston Food Bank to inspect, sort and repack food that will be distributed to hunger relief agencies in the area. For many of the volunteers, it was their first day back to campus after the winter break. Despite the blistering Boston freeze and heavy Spring semester course loads, they ventured to the Food Bank for an evening of community service. In just three hours, the team was able to salvage over five-thousand pounds of food that will provide 2,700 meals (almost 150 meals per volunteer) to the homeless in the Boston area! It was a memorable team-building event and AASU plans to revisit the Food Bank at least once more this semester. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the Food Bank directly at www.gbfb.org or call 617-427-5200.
