Boston in February…life on the banks of the Charles River gets a bit cold at times and only the warm embrace of the Caribbean Sea seems to soothe wind-cracked skin and relax tense muscles. Logically this calls for another sojourn to the Caribbean. This time, a spirited dozen HBSers ventured to the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), not just to unwind but to have the culturally enriching experience of participating in T&T's world-renowned "Carnival.
The African-American Student Union (AASU) hosted the 34th Annual H. Naylor Fitzhugh Conference February 24 through 26 at the Westin Copley Place Hotel. The weekend-long event is one of the largest business school conferences hosted by a student club, both in the registered number of participants and financial budget.
It sounded like a great idea. Creating a new, low-cost airline using planes that are sitting idle and workers that would otherwise be redundant. Leveraging existing resources (such as gates, booking systems and maintenance) to build an airline that is lower cost than competitors.
Although we are still reminiscing about the beaches of our exotic Spring Break destinations, it is not too early to start thinking about the activities surrounding graduation. Following a one-month break after EC final exams, second-year students will return for Graduation Week 2006.
Writing large checks may not be unusual among HBS students, but a select group has found a way to write checks that make a difference to the Boston community…bankrolled by the nation's only MBA student-run foundation. These students spent the fall term assessing grant applications from local nonprofit organizations on behalf of the Harbus Foundation, a public charity affiliated with the Harbus Newspaper.
On the heels of the first-ever HBS Dorms Energy Competition, the Graduate Green Living Program has rolled out its green mascot in conjunction with an energy pledge drive for the residents of Soldiers Field Park (SFP) and One Western Avenue (OWA). Starting this week, residents in these two apartment buildings will be invited to participate in an energy pledge, endeavoring to change their behavior in order to conserve energy and reduce waste.
The HBS Business of Sports Club proudly presented its "Business of the Olympics" panel discussion Thursday, March 9. The concept of the panel was generated from a recent event at the Harvard Club: "Harvard in the Olympics," featuring Harvard University alumni who had competed or participated in the Olympics.
