Scale seven summits in seven continents within seven months. A group of HBS and Kennedy School of Government students aim to do exactly that to raise funds for research in pediatric oncology. Spearheaded by former U.S. Army officer, John Serafini (MBA/ MPA 2007, Old Section F), the Mountain for Miracles expedition aims to raise $5 million toward the fight to cure pediatric caner.
HBS captured first place in the 2005 National Real Estate Challenge case competition hosted last week (November 10-11) by the McCombs School at the University of Texas in Austin. Real Estate Club members Cliff Chandler (OF), Zack Georgeson (OG), Nelson Hioe (OG), Kevin Kaberna (OG), Arnaud Karsenti (OA) and Nadeem Meghji (OB) formed the winning team that bested UC Berkley, Wharton (last year's defending champion), USC and Stanford Graduate School of Business to take the National Championship.
For those who celebrate, Thanksgiving often means lots of travel to see family sometimes scattered across the country (or the globe, for that matter). For others, the break next week means a chance to get off campus and see new places. Unfortunately, going anywhere means cracking open the ol' checkbook.
The annual Net Impact Conference, the largest gathering of graduate business students and young professionals in the world, was held at the Stanford Graduate School of Business from November 10 through 13. The Conference is one of Net Impact's most important events and constitutes the largest gathering of graduate-business students and young professionals in the world.
Almost one month ago, New Section A held a charity auction at Hong Kong to raise money for victims of the disasters along the Gulf Coast and in Pakistan. Overall, the section raised over $11,000 with this awesome charity party and auction. Each student in the section was challenged to contribute an item or service to be auctioned off.
As the Thanksgiving Holiday approaches, I couldn't help but start to think about all the things I am thankful for. After an incredibly inspirational day with Section C, many of these things came to light. First, we were fortunate to have two Summer Search students visit our class, as well as one Summer Search alumni who is now an HBS applicant.
If you're like most ECs, there were probably moments during Hell Week where you wished you could dump the monkey suit and head for the hills. Other ECs either had enough sense to get out of dodge and opt out of the whole dedicated interviewing process. If you fall into this group, you may have been one of many who made the trek to Hawaii with the HBS Surf Club for a week full of sun and fun.
