This is not a rant.

This is not a scolding, not an angry editor letting out her frustrations in a public forum.

What this is is a recommendation. I'm writing to remind you, the students, of the resources you have to express your opinion. I'm writing to encourage you to speak out, to let your opinion be known, to act.

Authors of gender-neutral housing proposal address errors in The Wire, Issue 9

Wheaton Wire, Wheaton College, MA

After last week's Wire front-page article on gender-neutral rooming at Wheaton, we, the authors of the Proposal to Allow Gender-Neutral Rooming, felt it was important to publicly clarify several facts. We would also like to take this opportunity to give the campus community a little bit more insight into why we believe gender-neutral rooming is an important option for students to have.

Dining dollars and meals

The Comment, Bridgewater State College, MA

32 minutes ago by Gary Lowell

Meal plans at Bridgewater State College are divided into two different payment methods: dining dollars and meals. The East Campus Commons (ECC) and Flynn Dining Commons (FDC) accept both meals and dining dollars. At the Crimson Cafeteria (CC) and former Commuter Cafeteria (FCC), only dining dollars are able to be used.

Your money, your roommate, your choice

If you pay $12,780 in rent to spend a year in an on-campus double, you should be comfortable. That was the basic principle behind the Student Government Association's push for gender-neutral housing.

Yesterday, after a year of deliberation and debate, the administration showed that it agrees.

11/19/09 - Dear Sex & the Cigar,

I've been in a casual relationship with a guy since the beginning of the semester. Though we don't date, and pretty much limit our contact to late night "booty calls," he mentioned once that he's "not one for commitment.

Orange sticker bicker

11/18/09 - In 2005, the Town of Narragansett introduced the "Unruly Gathering" ordinance, known to many University of Rhode Island students as the orange sticker policy.

The policy condemns neighborhood disruptions sparked by "excessive noise or traffic, obstruction of public streets by crowds or vehicles, illegal parking, public drunkenness, public urination, the service of alcohol to minors, fights, disturbances of the peace and litter.

Column: Divorce, not always bad for kids

11/18/09 - Nine years ago, I was lying awake in bed, listening to the destruction of my parents' 21-year marriage. I heard the sound of skin smacking skin, followed by my dad's voice yelling the word "bitch."

My parents were getting divorced, and it would be the greatest thing to ever happen to me.

Bones of the past, future buildings

The Heights, Boston College, MA

Since its purchase in 2004, St. John's Seminary has patiently waited atop its Brighton hill. Untouched by the Boston College community, the seminary is left to forlornly stare across Commonwealth Avenue at its parent university. St. John's buildings are huge and ornate, though occupied now by few.

The Glass Ceiling is a Leftist Construct, and other things I picked up in business school

If you are reading this piece, you are most likely a businessperson, and/or an MBA. The rest of the non-business world not caring the least about what us MBAs think, has placed us in a den of sin which we cohabit with door-to-door salesmen, child molesters, and the kinds of guys whose road trip ruminations might begin, "So whatever happened to that chick? The one who said you raped her?" Now, if you have gotten this far and are already horrified, I urge you kindly to click on your browser's back button or to turn to the next page.

A fairy tale for the 21st Century

Think back to when your most treasured possession was your classic tin Disney princess lunchbox. Maybe it still is your most treasured possession. Either way, much can be determined from analyzing such a lunchbox: Princess eyelash lengths vary greatly, Snow White's skin is actually less white than some of her fellow princesses and diversity in fairy tale land is lacking.

I was at South in the health office when a kid came in and got condoms, lube, and an abstinence kit.

I spent my weekend licking spilled beer off of people's shirts. What has my life come to?

This weekend I threw a pumpkin off of the roof of a grad dorm, saw my friend get beat with a shoe in the shower, performed a lap dance and went to a history conference in between.

Spending my dining bucks

The Heights, Boston College, MA

I'm not sure whether students here don't recognize the predicament we're in, or they just don't care; but we at Boston College pay far too much for food in the dining halls. If you are using the residential dining plan, as many of us are forced to do, you are paying $2,270 per semester for food.

Not going to classes today, it's Friday the 13th.

He may only be a freshman, but yes I have a man-crush on Alex Oriakhi.

Would snorting a line of protein powder make your brain stronger? Because Ihave an anatomy exam coming up, and I'll do anything short of actually studying.

Women outperform men at graduation

The Berkeley Beacon, Emerson College, MA

For centuries, women have worked toward equal rights and equal opportunity. For the most part these are still-unrealized goals.

At Emerson, 17 percent more females graduated with honors in 2008 than did males. The share was 17 percent in 2007 and 15 percent in 2006.

HBO recently aired a documentary titled By the People: The Election of Barack Obama. It begins when Obama's a senator, before he announced his candidacy for the presidency. From there, it goes to the campaign.

Immediately after you finish watching it, one name comes to mind, and it isn't President Obama.

I'm going to find the person who created the Turkey Gobbler Sandwich they sell at Wilbur Cross and marry them, even if I have to go to Vermont to do it.

I may or may not have just tripped over a speed bump.

To the guy looking at my Facebook profile in the library, hello from behind you.
